We
have been successful in devising a cost effective concept of ONE TEACHER
SCHOOL
(OTS)
or EKAL VIDYALAYA. Here, using the informal method of teaching, one
trained teacher educates children in the age group of 6-14 years, for three
hours every day.
While previous attempts, by many, of educating the deprived children in remote villages have failed, the Ekal Vidyalaya concept saw the face of success. The solution lay in non-imposition of an alien value system on them.
The
Health Care Education Programme disseminates information about health hazards
and preventive measures through community participation. The emphasis is on
hygiene, sanitation, nutrition, first aid, maternal & child care and information
on common diseases prevailing in the local area.
The
primary aim is to provide information about income generating programmes and
make the villagers self-sufficient.
Our objective is self-reliance of the villager utilizing local resources. For sustaining development, we pursue small projects with activities like: Vermi-culture, Fruit-tree plantation, Vegetable plantation, Water management, Animal husbandry etc. Providing of training in these activities and even helping in marketing of the produce is done.
The
objective is to educate villagers about various government schemes meant for
them, about the benefits that were supposed to flow from the schemes, in case
they are forthcoming. The modalities of using ‘Right to Information Act’ is also
in the curriculum.
